Pipe Friction Apparatus

Pipe Friction loss of head due to change in cross-section, elbow, valves and fittings of all types fall into the category of minor losses in pipe lines. In long pipe lines the friction losses are much larger than these minor losses and hence the latter are often neglected. But, in shorter pipelines their consideration is necessary for the correct estimation of losses.

Scope Of Experimentations:
  • Clean the apparatus and make all tanks free from dust
  • Close the drain valve provided
  • Fill sump tank ¾ with clean water and ensure that no foreign particles are there
  • Close all flow control valves given on the water line and open By Pass Valve
  • Check the level of manometric fluid in the tube
  • Close all Pressure Taps of manometer connected to pipes
  • Ensure that on/off switch given on the panel is at off position
  • Now switch on the Main Power Supply (220 Volts AC, 50 Hz)
  • Switch on the Pump

Utilities Required:

  • Power supply: Single Phase, 220 volts, 50 Hz, 5 Amp with earth
  • Water Supply
  • Drain
